Magic Pen
Where has this week gone? Somehow I let it slip by and now here I am posting to my blog, midnight Sunday. I'd like to tell you about a great collaborative tool found on the Internet called Magic Pen. It begins with a very simple concept of moving a small red ball to a flag, but it progresses quickly to a very difficult game of construction, and it is based completely on physics. The complexity of the game is built on gravity, friction, and inertia, and requires some serious engineering skills before you can complete all 24 levels. A note of interest-- it is a very addicting game so make sure you have time to spare when you begin playing.

The magic pen game is definitely addicting. That is a great resource for teachers who want to incorporate technology and production in to the classroom. It could be really beneficial to students even knowing that they are learning. It also bring creativity into the picture, which from what we have discussed in our instructional technology class discussions, seems to be lacking in the classroom. That is a great tool and I'll probably keep playing it til I master every level.
I played this after I saw it in our class posting on WebCT. I sent it over to our Physics teacher and warned her not to get addicted to it.
She emailed me back that she had wasted too much time, but enjoyed it.

I told myself I wasn't going to open the game because I LOVE computer games. I can play minesweeper for hours...and even after I win I will keep playing to try to beat my original time. It is an addiction. But, I opened Magic Pen anyway and you all are right! It is really cool and really addicting. It is definitely a creative resource. Things like Magic Pen that incorporate technology and learning are good at drawing in students of all ages! Games are always fun and almost always effective in engaging students. I loved it...but I cannot ever open it again. Haha.

I played and played with this over the summer. My husband saw me playing and wanted to try. Two days later, I begged him to get off the computer.
I am still addicted to this game. I love stuff like this. I also looked at one of the links on the homepage that opened up the word game "construct-a-word". I love it, too. Another game I used to play that involved constructing many different words with the same letters is called "text twist". It is timed so you have to be quick. It is really challenging, too- and addicting...haha. I will try to find a link to it and post it on here.
